Shin Ji Hyun was enjoying absolute bliss as she was about to marry her fiancé, Kang Min Ho, but her perfect life is shattered when she gets into a car accident that leaves her in a coma. She is given a second chance at life by a Scheduler, but it comes with a condition: she has to find three people outside of her family who would cry genuine tears for her. In order to do this, she borrows the body of Yi Kyung, a part-time employee at a convenience store for 49 days.
Slacker's review:
After "Secret Garden", this is probably my next favourite drama of the year. 49 Days is different from the norm in terms of concept, plot & character development. There are interesting and unexpected twists & turns, and there are great chemistry between the cast. It's hard to find such a high standard drama in Kdrama land these days. The whole cast was really strong in terms of popularity and acting. Even the 2nd leads like BSB and SJH are not the usual "B-listers".
Actually, how many of us really know how others think of you? I think I wld rather not know of anything. That's what Ji Hyun realised after finding her so-called best pals, trying to get them shed a tear for her. Knowing the unknown is quite scary huh? Imagine Ji Hyun found out that actually Min Ho & In Jung were already a couple, and they planned for Min Ho to marry her for some motives. However, some unknown things can be a surprise, especially when one is lost & found. (I shall not disclose too much as it's a big twist in the drama).
Ending of the drama is really...unexpected. Actually I hoped for a happy one, but I guessed an open one is the best option after all.
Lee Yo Won is sometimes known for her expressionless or lifeless acting, but she proved us wrong in 49 days. She is lifeless and expressive at the same time, of coz' thanks to her dual roles. Acting Yi Kyung and Ji Hyun (in her body) is not an easy task, but LYW was very natural and convincing. Super good chemistry with the guys as well, and of coz' Nam Gyu Ri. I guessed it's hard to find 2 women with such a special bond.
First time watching NGR's acting, and I thought she was not bad eh. She's an idol-turned-actress, and her expressions might be stiff or exaggerated initially, but she got better and I think she's really good with her role. I liked Ji Hyun. You really see how she grow as a character. From an innocent & naive girl to a matured lady.
Great comeback for Jo Hyun Jae. Kang is a super nice character, though he cld be quite woody somehow. I liked how Kang helped Ji Hyun after he found out about her "secret". We felt his love for Ji Hyun, and it's really touching. Actually, he's also very nice and caring to Yi Kyung as well.
Is this Bae Soo Bin's first bad role? A little hard to get used to it, but Mr Bae was quite convincing. However, acting wise, he's a little unnatural as compared to the rest. Min Ho is not an evil guy in nature, but he turned bad due to some circumstances. His last few scenes...cried & repent, were the best evidence that this guy "cld still be saved". At least his ending was good, as In Jung is still waiting for him.
Jung Il Woo's Scheduler role is quite interesting, and his romance scenes with LYW were touching and sad as well. To be honest, I always hoped that Yi Kyung wld end up with Kang...haha! So I was not rooting for Soo-Kyung couple.
Seo Ji Hye is another baddie girl here, but like Min Ho, In Jung still has some conscious. (She wld be down right evil if she killed Ji Hyun). I nv thought much of SJH, but her performance was great here. In Jung had many emotional burdens and she seemed to be fighting in a lonely war while others protected Ji Hyun.
49 Days OST has some nice songs. Jo Hyun Jae and Jung Il Woo also sang songs too. Nice voices~
