TV Drama Review #72 - A Pillow Case of Mystery 施公奇案

What's abt?
Shi Lun, along with his family, came to Jiang Du county to be its new judge. In his first case which involved the missing dumplings, he had to sentence the town fool. When the fool was found hanging in his house, Tian Ba blamed Lun for his suicide. Everything seems to be getting worse and worse, until Lun found a ceramic pillow by accident. The pillow contained a spirit, who dropped Lun hints to help him crack the cases. The spirit later turned out to be Rong's maternal grandfather. It turned out that the pillow spirit wanted Lun and Rong to solve the mystery of the Tang family massacre 20 yrs ago....
Loves & Hates:
This drama was funny & interesting, but the plot went downhill after the secret of Xiang Rong's family was revealed. Too much quarelling & misunderstandings dragged the last few epis of the drama. But then, the twist at the last part was quite good la..provided u havent read the synop beforehand. Hahaha!
What saves the day was the cast, who did a reasonable good job. It's always entertaining to see Bobby, who's the cheerful lead in most of his dramas. With the help of his pillow, it's quite fun to see how the clues could help him to solve the cases..Kenix's character was alright, nothing too special about XR, but luckily she has good chemistry with Bobby la. Long time didnt see Benny on tv liao, butta his acting seems kinda same to me...nothing new. Tavia's doing alright lah, chemistry with Benny was good generally.
Worth watching?
Wld reco to my pals out there, but do bear with the part when Xiang Rong wanna leave Shi's family. I also buay tahan..hahaha!

Had my 1st ever taste of Escargots (French Snails) lo! But this is not the main point..lolz! Wanna know what i ate with it? Rice & 2 types of vegs from Mixed veg stall, plus chili salmon lo. Hahaha! Escargots tasted so so actually, the taste was actually from the sauce. Well, could not take too much coz' I would feel very 腻 lo. French cuisine isnt for me i guessed. Ha!

Eating "Black Cod Fish" now...yes! Only the fish meat la. Never eat this type of fish before..and i bet most ppl wld know White Cod Fish better. Tasted good, using the steaming method. Hehe!

Received Ven. Hao Yi's call in the morning...just wanna double-checked my email with me..and asked me if I wanna perform on our graduation ceremony. Well....slacker Ching would definitely say no...coz' I dun like to be on stage mah! Hahaha! Abit paiseh to reject tho..

Today's class was quite "siong". Why leh? Yuko-san cant speak much english and there were 2 pros in my group today. If i am not wrong, one of them had spent abt 1.5 yrs in Japan studying Japanese lo! Pro sia. Hahaha! Well, we had a new volunteer too..she's Yumi-san, who has just started working on 1st Apr in SG. (彼女は奇麗ですね～) Hehe..Anyway, she's another pro coz' she's proficient in English & French..and studying Chinese also! Wah lao eh! Haha! Also got to know my friends better. The new pal i have made is actually from China wor! Wah...if she didnt say about her hometown I wont know she's not a local. Then, Mandy is a divorcee...single mama with 2 kids...(gotta bow to her liao..strong mama..) Ha~
Today's topic was quite ride range...from wedding to food to places in SG etc. Ha! Kenna homework liao..gotta tell them something abt any SG's festival lo~ Better prepare now or else i got no time liao..u know exams coming ya? Haiz~

TV Drama Review #71 - Which Star Are You From 你从哪颗星来

What's it abt?
Seung Hee was a director who was deeply in love with Hye Soo, a musician. Even though her family strongly opposed their relationship, Hye Soo still wanted to marry Seung Hee. As he was proposing to her in the car, they ended up in a car accident which led to Hye Soo's death. The drama took place 3 years after Hye Soo had passed away. Even after three years, Seung Hee cant seem to forget Hye Soo nor put his life back into order. Determined to forget Hye Soo, Seung Hee went on a trip to the countryside. There, he he met a girl who looked exactly like Hye Soo. The resemblence was so startling that he cldn't help but stare at her and ended up following her. They eventually spent a few days together in Bok Shil's house. They parted their ways but soon, Seung Hee met her again in Seoul. Jung Hoon, who was Hye Soo's childhood pal also met Bok Shil at the countryside and offered her to work in Seoul. Jung Hoon was checking Bok Shil's identity while Bok Shil began to work under Seung Hee. Later, it was revealed that Bok Shil was actually Hye Rim, Hye Soo's youger sister who was lost in a fire. Seung Hee and Bok Shil fell in love with each other, but that's also the start of the tragic as her family & friends could not accept their relationship.
Loves & Hates:
Plot...is rather old-fashioned, and I wasnt very pleased when the newspaper or mag said it's better than "Full House". NO WAY man! Haha! Honestly, the whole plot sux becoz' of Hye Rim's mum. I hate her to core la..lolz! Some selfish mum who kept using her departure of daughter and husband as reasons to justify her way to ctrol Rim's life. Ending epi's mood became too happy la, somehow cant connect to all the agony we saw from the previous epi. Anyway, the plot was not interesting itself, but what makes it watchable was the cast. All thanks to Jung Ryeo Won.
Saying abt the cast...Jung's performance was the best. She has to differentiate herself b/w the 2 major characters. Hye Soo..the classy sis who resembled Jung's previous role in Sam Soon. Hye Rim, was 180 degrees different from her sis...some country pumpkin with weird fashion and weird way of conversing. Her acting was convincing...that's great improvement ne! However, I dont like to see her cry or trying to gain Seung Hee's attention. Somehow, Hye Rim was quite an annoying fella..haha! But who cares ya?
Kim Rae Won....this fella who speaks with a nasty temper..always shouting in his dramas..He gave me the same feeling from "Red Bean love" to "Attic Cat"..and even in this drama. I dun like him shouting his confession to Hye Rim lo..is that the way to show u like someone? Ha! I hope to see some major changes in him, especially the choice of characters. He was overshadowed by Jung somehow, but i guessed it's becoz Seung Hee...is a standard character in KR dramas, so nothing new liao la. What i wanna say is that his chemistry with Jung was good...hohoho!
Kang Jung Hwa...had seen her in "let's go to the beach" 2 yrs back...acting wise..still the same. Kinda bitchy somehow...lolz! Anyway, her character is quite minor here...so not much to comment abt
Park Shi Hoo...havent seen him before...a nice, but not-so-nice man in this drama, who liked Hye Soo and Hye Rim, but these gals just like his best pal Seung Hee la...pathetic hor? Expression was kinda woody, perhaps need to brush up alot lo...
OST- was average...the only song which kept coming into my head was the theme by M to M..if i'm not wrong...
Worth watching?
This drama is 3/4 a sad & heavy-hearted one...how i wish Bok Shil never knows her real identity...Wont be a "must-watch" la, coz from the plot, u can know what wld happen in the middle and what's the ending...too predictable. Watch it if u wanna see Jung's performance or u are a die-hard fan of Kim Rae Won.

Met up with "long-time-no-see" Sherry-chan @ HG Mall. This gal still looks the same lah..hehe! Had our lunch @ L.J lo, super pathetic combo 1. Folks, really not worth my 3.80 bucks. It's always nice to chat with pals who likes the same stuffs as you, or at least, can chat about anything under the sun. I am glad Sherry-chan is one of them..haha!
Honestly, I thot i should learn some Nihongo from u next time...u're pro gal! Hehe!

Originally a novel by Yamazaki Toyoko, and later a 1974 movie. The book depicts the conflicts within the Manpyo family, which is famous in Kansai's financial circles, amidst the tumultuous reorganisation of the financial industry of the 1970s. Unlike the book, the eldest son, Teppei, and not the father, Daisuke, will be the centre character of the drama.
This drama is set in the 1970s decade of Japan. The main rivalry depicted in the story is between Manpyo Daisuke, a powerful banker, and his eldest son, Manpyo Teppei, the executive managing director of a steel firm. For some reasons, Daisuke seem to dislike his own son and as Teppei seems to find out the reason for Daisuke's hatred, his whole life is turned upside down with fatal consequences.
Loves & Hates:
Plot- Oh yeah! Another Kimu-taku drama! I simply love this plot, but beware..its rather a serious drama...no sweet romance stuffs going on here. Perhaps those who like "sugary" dramas wont like it initially. Well, give it a try...the plot was good. As the plot unfolds slowly, many things wld reveal, esp the reason why Daisuke disliked Teppei so much. Maybe u wld find some stuffs bewildering, like the mistress sleeps with Daisuke & wife in the same room! Can't believe it right? It's really....(dunno what to say...) Of coz, the plot focus on Teppei lo...how he fight against his father...or actually...(u will know when the big secret reveals...just a hint..identity problem again la!) But i can guarantee u the secret wld be a super "Jing Bao" one.
Superb drama must have a grand ending right? Honestly the ending was an unexpected one...a very emotional episode.. (hint..there's another twist to the big secret...)
Cast-Simply ichiban! Kimura..i remembered in my review on "Engine"..i said his characters were usually very individualistic, and very "himself"...You wont find the same Kimura here liao. I bet u gotta thank the strong storyline and character development. Kimura's acting wont disappoint u...emotions were clear and i just love how he battled with Kitaooji. Best pair man! Chemistry with Hasegawa was average though, perhaps the focus was not on their romance la, and they were already a married couple...so scenes b/w them were not many liao.
My impression of Hasegawa was so so..and her character was actually quite a "flower vase" here..so not much to say.
Kitaooji..who acted as Teppei's dad...was an excellent actor. Daisuke is one complicated fella, his emotions were quite hidden beneath and u wont understand him somehow.
The fellas i disliked was Suzuki and Nakamura....Aiko, Daisuke's mistress acted like the "female head" of Manpyo family, constantly trying to arrange political marriages for the Manpyo siblings and bullying Daisuke's wife..Yasuko. Ha...and she had some "ai mei" relationship with Nakamura's Mima, who's the husband of Daisuke's eldest daughter.
Though i disliked her very much....her acting was good enuff to let me hate her so much. Haha!
OST- havent listen la...this drama don't have a themesong la, tho occasionally there's an english oldie la. What a pity sia.
Worth watching?
Must-watch sia! We shall see who's the winner in the end...and of coz..the big secret revolving Teppei and his parents. Btw, must congrat this drama which ended with a 39% viewership in Jpn. That's really good...

Bascially the aim is to "travel" ard the world as fast as u can..(then game finish liao lor) Actually I dunno if i can consider this game a tough one..becoz to win the game, you gotta depend on those 3 colour stuffs to move on, or move back lo. Hahaha! Need to be quite knowlegable sia..lol! Shall grab Tuan to play with me one fine day. Hehe!

呵呵。。最近还挺爱吃韩国菜喔。璇小姐终于可以吃到“辣炒年糕”了！哈哈！今天吃的东西，都是“红透透”的。（因为都是spicy stuffs) 点了辣炒年糕之外，还有spicy kim chi soup和 辣炒cuttlefish。超好吃！呵呵！最重要是吃得开心啦~可惜今天没拍什么照片。所以，请大家耐心等待下次的“美食好介绍”吧。

第一次看“艺术片导演”蔡明亮的电影。第一次看M-18的电影。哈哈！最重要的是，还是跟王太后和璇一起看。。ho~ 其实本小姐的艺术细胞不是很高啦，不过还挺好奇这部片子想要表达出的意境。结果呢？还是不太能明白。这里要感谢璇小姐个人的见解啦。（make some sense to me..haha!) M-18的电影，尺度当然比NC-16来得更大。不过，只要以平常心的心态去看待它，就不成问题啦。蔡导演的戏，节奏较慢，拍摄的手法也不是每个人可以明白和接受。这套戏算是比较容易看得懂的一套啦。哈！在此，一定要表扬李康生这位演员，可以把两个角色演得淋漓尽致。
至于该不该推荐给各位呢？我只能说，如果你不介意看“看不懂”的电影，那就去见识一下吧。
要不然，商业电影还是比较“保险”。

Went to meet up with my 2 Nihongo ka classmates Mandy & Li wen earlier on and saw Suzuki sensei sitting on the sofa. Hehe! Was kinda stress initially coz' I saw so many Japanese senseis there la...lolz! So, today's my trial lesson...with a few others together with Jimmy-san, a Sgporean who has studied in Nippon many yrs ago. Quite a friendly but straightforward guy...haha! How i wish i could speak japanes fluently~Ha! Saw many pros there who has been there for 10 yrs or so...
My first session was quite alright, though i think i need to prepare something to talk about next time. Lolz! Still feel kinda stressful to speak in my rotten Nihongo, butta I wld try my best la. Ha! Jimmy-san shared with us his experiences of studying the language in Nippon and i had learnt quite alot from him.
Well, ended my Nihongo lesson wks ago..and wont be having lessons in CC liao. Shall see if this "jpnese speaking" class is useful to me, before making decision to attend JCS conversation class in Aug.
Li wen invited Mandy & me to her house...which was very close to my place (The Florida). Ha! Wanna thank her for her ride also..she's a friendly person. Didnt know Mandy is a mum of 2 leh! I still thought she's single...lolz! Anyway, she didnt pass her FTT lah, but that's alright..try again!
--Taiwan Tour--
Speaking of my TW trip, shall give the details at a later date. Well, there's some changes to it. Would be gg with Namho la..for my 8 days trip. Gotta miss my SQ experience again coz' CI has a better time slot...which is a midnight flight to TW and an evening flight back to SG. Well, more time for my family to plan if we need to go to Keelung. Haiz...dunno must wait till when then i can travel with SQ again..sobbbzz. Switching to CI means $$ for the trip is lower liao lah..good thing hor..can save up quite abit. (This time round the differences is abt 200 bucks per person..so not a small amt). So now my 8 days trip cost abt 900++ (exclusive of tax). Hehe!

TV Drama Review #69 - Hana Yori Dango 2 'Returns' 花样男子2

What's it abt?
Hana Yori Dango 2 picks up right after Domyoji leaves for New York. After confessing to Domyoji, Makino has not spoken to him for a year. Rui and the other members of F4 try and help Makino meet Domyoji again by going to New York for the christmas holidays. Though F4 and Makino meet Domyoji again, he has become a completely different person, and so they left for Japan.
Some time later, Domyoji's mother annouced that they wld be returning to Japan. They held a giant super-rich and classy birthday party for Domyoji and annouced that Domyoji wld be engaged to a rich girl and heir Shigeru. On the other hand, Rui began to fall in love with Makino... Sojiro found out that his first love was getting married...and Domyoji family's old servant Tama is back to serve the house...with Makino.
Loves & Hates:
From my previous review on HYD, didnt quite like the cast and the plot. Hmm, to those who had watched "Meteor Gdn", HYD 2's plot shld be super familiar to you, though there were some slight differences. There's more emphasis on Sojiro lah, but I didnt like how Rui had changed sia. Perhaps Rui's image was getting too "glamorous" somehow...
Finally, the plot was not as rush as season 1, and it's 11 epis..long enough la. Acting wise, nothing special from the cast. Ending was kinda "too good" plus too grand la..esp. the change in attitude of Domyoji's mum. Waha!
Everything's ok la, butta didnt get any better sia...I still prefer the tw version though acting sux and stuffs. The whole feeling is still way better than its Japanese counterpart. (perhaps i am already bias somehow..)
Ost-havent listen the cd..Arashi's themesong "Love so sweet" was standard, but not very catchy to me. Utada's "Flavour of life" simply rocks....couldnt recall other melodies in the drama tho.
Worth watching?
Those HYD fans out there, shld continue to watch the sequel la, nothing too bad but nothing too good also. Lolz...Check out "Death Note 2" Toda Erika who will appear as guest in ep 10 & 11.
There's rumour that a 3rd season....shall see in the future.

The Queen is in her early 30s, but she is still not married. Since, the 1st successor to the throne died, the royal family is in search for a new successor. Incidentally, they come to know of a young man who was in fact a son of the prince to a woman who left the Palace so as to keep her pregnancy a secret. The young man's name was Lee Hoo, more commonly known to his friends as Kang Hoo. Lee Hoo worked as a delivery boy at a Chinese restaurant, and was known for his 7-minute maximum delivery time. Lee Hoo had been brought up as more of a punk than a prince so his habits and his way of conversing were very different from the people of royal blood. Although he had never dreamt of living in the Palace, he finds himself immersing in its grandeur and improving himself to prove that he indeed deserves to be called the Successor to the throne.
He soon finds out that not only will he be facing lessons to the path of royalty, and dilemmas of love and of stature, but he will also learn to compete for the position he had been, first and foremostly, called for.
Loves & Hates:
Ok folks..to clear things up. It's not the sequel of "Goong Princess Hrs". It's just a spin-off, or rather another story which had similar settings as Goong. So no relations at all ah! Inevitably, many ppl wld compared it with Goong and of coz...the viewership ratings in Korea...i bet u guys know it's very low. What i can say is...follow your heart. Haha!
Plot-Was kinda boring at first, maybe becoz' the storyline was focus more on the "competition" b/w Lee Hoo & Lee Joon, how Lee Hoo adapt to his life as a royal and of coz, the "evil forces" with their evil plans. Focuses on romance part was rather slow and little, but as the story progesses there's more on the "Si Jiao Lian". Also, there's focus on the Queen and her romance lo....which was also facing ups & downs.
There were some significant changes to the drama also...dunno for what la? Anyway, Goong S..in terms of the whole backdrop and setting...is very westernised. The Queen hardly wears Hanbok and u definitely wont see much Hanbok for the princes and female leads. Many ppl didnt like the change of the maids' dressing...I just felt it's too "not korean" liao. Ha! The leads hairdressing had some slight changes also...but it's change for the better la.
Ending was kinda expected...butta who doesn't like a happy ending ya? Haha!
Cast- I guessed most ppl only know Se7en..who's a singer or perhaps..Park Shin Hye..who was in "Stairways to heaven". Se7en's acting was abit raw initially, but i wouldnt say it's lousy. He definitely improved alot as the drama goes...especially on his way of conversing. Or perhaps...he delibrately spoke with pout lips leh? haha...
Heo Yi Jae...she had filmed some movies before her debut in kr drama ba. Didnt look pretty to me....thought she "couldnt make it" but i was quite wrong...she's quite a lovely gal somehow. Her chemistry with Se7en was good lo..hehe! Pls dont miss those kissing scenes..wahahhaa!
Park Shin Hye...super young kiddo..(she's born in 1990)...has a super matured face...and i bet she's the most experieced actress in this drama. Her character, sad to say...was meant to be a pitiful one...but like "Hyo Rin" in Goong...she's not as bad as what u think.
Kang Doo...I didnt know why they picked him? Not handsome leh! And i dont see the charm factor in him. Well, at least his looks looked pleasant enuff in the drama la...but i think if they had choose a more handsome lad..more ppl wld watch the drama? hahaha! Lee Joon...another pitiful fella..kenna ctrl by his parents...and the best thing is...his true identity...hoho! (always the same old stuff). He looked stiff to me, perhaps due to lack of expressions on his face...but overall, his acting was acceptable.
OST- rather similar to Goong somehow, perhaps becoz' 2nd moon did some music for Goong too. Nice melodies in here...and i like Howl's "Miracle"...perhaps the best thing from Goong S is the ost?
Worth watching?
I think many Goong fanatics wld be disappointed with Goong S...for me..the prob lies with the plot. So, it wont be a "must-watch" case here, but for ppl who are interested...i shall not pour u cold water la, as i said earlier on..just follow your heart lo. I believe many wld agree with me the only interesting factor was the romance b/w Soon Ae and Lee Hoo..haha!

WT's 21st Bdae + Family Outing [2nd version]

--Woan Ting's 21st Birthday Party--
Met up with SC at her hse bustop yday...took the bus to bedok when she realised she forgot to bring the present with her. So, we took bus back to her hse, had bubble tea before we got a cab to her chalet. Was constantly worried abt getting a cab coz' I dont take cabs la..haha! Heng met 2 nice uncles on my way there and return...phew~
So, lucky we made the decision to get a cab, coz Safra resort was all the way in sia..if we took bus, cld have been walking like siao or what..lolz!
Met the bdae girl and had a light meal there. Chatted with her sec music class pal while waiting for her to cut her cake la..lolz! SC and myself were "self-entertaining" ourselves la, really must pei fu myself sometimes..lolz! Couldnt recognised WT's mum la (too long didnt c her le), but her bros looked kinda same la.
WT also bought her cake from Breadtalk..quite special ya. (so breadtalk's cakes not bad hor?)
Left the place @ 1opm after a short chat with her. Hope u like our gifts lo.
--Chinatown#1 Lousy Service--
E.W told me to blog what happened yday. Perhaps it's good to let my pals know also. Hahaha! Anyway, have plans to visit TW this june. Butta nothing is confirmed at the moment. So went to various tour agencies to check out the itinerary & prices la.
Went to SA..and this "ah gua" guy served us. Abit buay tahan with the way he spoke liao, but that's ok. E.W checked their itinerary and asked why they dont go "Fo Guang Shan" in Kaohsiung. Then that guy told her, "U know there are many Sgporeans who are Christians & Catholics...blah blah.." Super pissed off by his comments. U mean SG dun have buddhists la? Bengz. Then we left and E.W said that no need to go Thailand then..since she's a buddhist country. Lolz!
So, the service u get determines if we want to travel with you...which was bloody true yday. SA was out...(even without that fella it's out anyway..haha!)
Went to ASA downstairs...A china guy served us. Basically he's alright, but nothing more from him. (as in he wont say much more besides answering the qns we had..)
Went to CTC, browse thru' their itinerary...didnt quite like it..
Hong Thai...pretty unfamiliar with it...that guy was friendly and they got a good deal with China Airlines flights...butta...the itinerary was so so.
Sin Chung (New Shan)...was another "kns" one. Previously had a not-so-good experience with their service last yr when we made queries for our BKK trip. This time was much worse. Haha! A Malaysian lady served us..and her 1st qns was , "which passports are u holding?". Stunned by her qns man! U mean E.W sounded like a foreigner ah? Anyway, that's not the way of serving ppl sia. NVM...continued to check out the stuffs. E.W asked whether they have SQ flights and that lady gave a straight ans, "NO SQ Flights"...what the...(I just told mama maybe they didnt get SQ flights de lo...save cost mah..) Anyway, her service just sux la...haiz! I didnt bother to check their itinerary coz' i simply wont go to anywhere with them.
Walked over to Namho...our fav tour agnecy till now. Met that lady who was our tour leader from our Thai'95 trip. (i wonder why Mr Chean cld rmb her..lolz!) E.W was happily chatting with her while she told us the diff b/w 3 TW packages...and E.W is hoping that she could lead the tw tour..hahah! (super buay tahan my mama sometimes..lolz!)

Today's mission is to get Tuan's blouses and bag....yipee! She finally found a nice bag...ok gal u looked good with it k? Haha...So, Ms Tuan bought 2 blouses from Mastina & D.P respectively...(like the black one from D.P) Hehe!
Had my lunch & dinner there before heading home...
