"To love is to suffer. To avoid suffering one must not love. But then one suffers from not loving. Therefore to love is to suffer, not to love is to suffer. To suffer is to suffer. To be happy is to love. To be happy then is to suffer. But suffering makes one unhappy. Therefore, to be unhappy one must love, or love to suffer, or suffer from too much happiness. I hope you're getting this down."
- Sonja, Love and Death (1975)
To love or not to love? All will lead to suffering.
If so, I wld rather not to love, coz' I won't suffer from a heartbreak.
Humans are always living in contradiction.
So, after u decided on something, pls go ahead and give your best,
no matter what the outcome will turn out to be.
At least, you will live with no regrets.

CC Gang Gathering : GC's birthday celebration
--Kallang Leisure Park--
Well, the weather wasn't good today, but luckily there's only drizzle...hoho! Met up with 3 other gals at Kallang Mrt before meeting the rest. Long time didn't see all of them liao...really glad to meet up ya.
Well, I don't think I wld go to KLP again if not for bowling or ice-skating. It's really inconvenient sia...Shops quite little, and not much choices for restaurants. In the end, we ate at Nihon Mura la...Food was not bad, I thought it was better than their branch at "The Cathay". The scallops were too salty though...haiz.
Had a nice chat with the girls...all of them are working now, and I think i should be worrying about my future after exams next yr ah. Lolz! Money hard to earn sia~!
--Aftermath--
Went to Kallang bowl to check out the price...there's a Canon function there, but we still can play la. Well..I guessed the std rate for one game is 4.30 bucks and above now. Kinda ex...the gals decided to catch a movie instead. First time watching movie at Flimgarde, their cinemas were not bad, comfortable seats. Initially the gals wanna watch "High Sch Musical 3", though personally I don't wanna watch it. Check out HSM3, left 2 front row seats...so decided to go for "Connected", and the cinema hasn't got any takers..haha!
--Connected--
This movie is a remake of "Cellular", which I didnt watch. Just like what the movie critics said, this movie is really an above average HK action film. Not even a second did I felt boring. The movie is action-packed and I had a fun time watching Louis Koo driving dangerously on the streets, causing massive accidents. There's quite a few humourous moments...especially b/w Louis and Nick Cheung. I am glad that Nick was given a bigger support role, nice action from him too. Barbie Hsu's performance was not too bad....basically her character Grace was locked up in a room most of the time, but I think she handled her expressions and emotions well enough. Barbie hardly interacted with Louis face-to-face, until the last scene when they were saved. I like the twist towards the end of the movie...I bet nobody expected that twist sia. The movie ended nicely with a happy ending. One more thing, lots of familiar faces were in this movie, like Flora Chan, and a few from TVB. That guy selling the HP charger to Louis's character was super damn funny.....had a good laugh.
This movie really worthed my 9.50 bucks. Thumbs up!
--Aftermath--
PY was asking if anyone wanna longbang her car to Tamp, so I decided to go ahead with HM and SC. PY's driving skills quite gd ah....and we had a nice time la. HM! When will be your turn to drive us around? Hehe!

Yeah! Home-cooked food again!
--Dinner--
Yeah it's sotong and fish combo again! I think Mr Chean must have a sudden craving for home-cooked food...lolz! Anyway, he prepared the food while E.W baked the sotong and steamed the fish. Hehe! Ah Ching leh? My job is to eat la! Hahaha!
The baked sotong...chili reduced quite abit (becoz' I thought it's very spicy..) Anyway, it's super Q!
Long time didn't eat 金目鲈 liao. I don't know what's the english term for it..anyway...it's very delicious. Butta, dunno why Mr Chean cut the fish into half?? Alamak...
P.S: 2nd experiment coming soon!

TV Drama Review #157 - 33 pun Tantei 33分侦探
No.of Epis: 9Year/TV Station: 2008/FujiTV
Cast:
Domoto Tsuyoshi ~ Kurama Rokuro
Mizukawa Asami ~ Muto Rikako
Takahashi Katsumi ~ Police Inspector Otawara
Synopsis: (edited from Dramawiki)
The drama's title comes from its time slot (Saturday nights at 11:10pm), which runs a total of 33 minutes after commercial time is subtracted. This comedy features a slow-witted sleuth named Kurama Rokuro. While viewers will be able to identify the criminal right away, Kurama constantly comes up with incorrect theories, leading him to always accuse the wrong person, and he has to expand the story so that each episode's mystery is solved within the 33 minutes time span.
Slacker's review:
This is quite a silly detective-comedy drama. Actually I was expecting something like "Kindaichi", but the plot differed totally. So u can guess how disappointed I was. Haha! Actually I didn't really enjoy the show. First is the way Kurama solved the cases were rather similar. For e.g., he will go to find a guy and a gal in the lab to help him out, and go to find another guy who's always disguise in various job setting, and Kurama has to bribe him for more information. The second reason was, the mysteries were not interesting or exciting to me, maybe because we already know who the culprits were. The drama was rather comical...at the starting of every epi, there will be some weirdos trying to sell things to Muto, but in the end, Otawara wld just came in and slammed the door at the fella. The scenes when the 3 of them travelled in a car to the crime scene, they're obviously driving a fake car, and the background of the driving scenes were also fake..haha! Also, the way they pour coffee, I don't know why they have to drop a ball or what onto the self-made machine and wait till the ball landed, then they can pour coffee. I thought it shld auto pour coffee, but i'm wrong. Haha! Ending scenes were funny too, the 3 of them would stopped in their position and hang on for several mins before bursting into laughter.
I bet many of us are waiting for Domoto's comeback, but then, this drama definitely won't be a classic drama for Domoto...I still missed his performance in "Summer Snow", and I really hope to see him in a more standard drama in the future. Domoto has a very strong and unique style here...Kurama loves wearing the pants which only reach his ankles, and his clothes are mostly in suits, plus his specs. Domoto is really the ideal actor for Kurama...his performance was not bad, but there's not much character development for this character. Mizukawa and Takahashi are not bad too...Mizukawa is Kurama's funny assistant, and I am wondering if Mizukawa's Muto likes Kurama or nt.
Themesong is "Secret Code" by Kinki Kids...not very catchy to me though.
Personally I won't recommend this drama as it's really quite lame somehow. However, if you missed Domoto Tsuyoshi and u wanna have a good laugh, do give "33 pun tantei" a try. It's a short drama anyway...no harm trying. Hehe!
P.S: Surprise surprise! 33pun Tantei is coming back for a season 2 this coming Spring season in 2009. If you've watched season 1...maybe u can look out for season 2. But I don't think I wld watch it.

--A Good Person--
Was watching a small part of "Match maker's Lover" yday...and I found another interesting ideology from Kang Hyun.
Hyun-soo comments that Kang-hyun is good at her job, but she tells him she has a long way to go; “Before being a good couple manager, I’ve got to be a good person first. A good colleague, a good friend, a good girlfriend, a good woman.” Then she remembers “good daughter”.....(credits to dramabeans)
My definition of "a good person" is never about being a good colleague, friend, woman etc. I just thought being honest, trustworthy, do good deeds, don't steal or rob etc = a good person.
Well, Kang Hyun's way of thinking is really cool...I mean to be a good colleague, friend, girlfriend, woman and daughter.....u must be the BEST HUMAN on earth ba? That's really demanding...haha! But anyway, I think i have to agree with her...she's right.
Oh my! I seriously regret not watching this drama now...I have so much fun watching that short 10 mins...arrgghh!
It's on my waiting list....till i have the time.

--How strong is your faith?--
After CJS's incident, I started to wonder how one's religion can help when one is in despair. I've always believe that having a religion can be a strong pillar, if not, the last pillar I can depend on when I meet difficulties in life.
So, am I doubting how strong is my faith?
I'm not a devout Buddhist, though I've been taking Dharma lessons through out the years.
I rely on my faith alot....
when I need to calm myself down,
when I pray for safety,
when I pray for health,
and how to lead my life...
But I haven't "test" how my religion will come in when I am really in deep trouble.
Maybe when we are not in the right state of mind, we couldn't think carefully.
We forget we still have families and friends around.
We forget we still have our faith we believed in.
We only know that we're in agony now.
So, people choose to end it in the most extreme way.
I think it's quite unfair to say our faith is not strong when there are other internal or external reasons hindering our decision or behaviour.
So how strong is our faith? We will only know when that day comes.

Da Slacker Talk #3
--Fairy Tales--
While waiting for "Golden Bride" to air yday night, I switched over to KBS World and caught a glimpse of "Match maker's lover". Saw this part when the male lead Hyun Soo asked the female lead Kang Hyun on why she wanted to become a match maker. Then the drama brought us back to the time when KH was a little kid...
Young Kang-hyun: “Snow White should be with this hunter instead.”
Mom: “Why would the princess marry the hunter instead of the prince?”
Young Kang-hyun: “The hunter is a courageous person. The Queen told him to kill Snow White, but he didn’t. If he was caught, he would have died. Instead of taking the princess’s heart [as proof], he took a pig’s heart.”
Mom: “But, Kang-hyun, marriage should be with princes.”
Young Kang-hyun: “No! The prince just kissed her. That’s not love. The one who really loves her is the hunter.”
Kang-hyun later admits that even now she dislikes all fairy-tale princes. The prince in the Little Mermaid, for instance, “couldn’t even recognize the face of the woman who saved him. Rapunzel’s prince is worse — he climbs her hair up the tower. How much would that have hurt?” And the Swan Prince had too many brothers (”Such a headache!”). But the worst was Cinderella’s prince: “He meets her at a party and can’t recognize her. She may be wearing different clothes, but still. Is that love? Then he falls for her because the shoe fits, and marries her.”
(credits to Dramabeans)
Hyun Soo has his own interpretations for fairy tales, he sees them as metaphors. So when he's a kid, he has a different view on Cinderella...
Young Hyun-soo: “I think Cinderella purposely left her shoe behind for the prince.”
Mom: “What do you mean?”
Young Hyun-soo: “Look, the shoe fits Cinderella’s foot perfectly… So why would it come off at the ball?”
(credits to Dramabeans)
Somehow, I thought this bit of conversation was kinda inspiring. When I was young, I nv question why princess must end up with a prince. I just read the tales and concluded they live happily ever after. Haha! Ah Ching must be a super plain child who don't question why, or have her own perspectives. So now, come to think of it, Snow White shld really marry the hunter leh. Haha!
I think I shld start looking at things in more dimensions....and not just read the face value of it.

TV Drama Review #156 - Gakko ja Oshierarenai! 学校学不到的事
No.of Epis: 10Year/TV Station: 2008/NTV
Cast:
Fukada Kyoko ~ Aida Mai
Tanihara Shosuke ~ Himuro Kensaku
Naka Riisa ~ Yokoyama Eri
Nakamura Aoi ~ Mizuki Kazuki
Maeda Goki ~ Narita Shizuya
Asakura Aki ~ Kenjo Hitomi
Kato Mizuki ~ Suzumura Rei
Norizuki Kohei ~ Inai Shintaro
Natsume Suzu ~ Kameda Maho
Yanagisawa Daisuke ~ Nagasaki Kiyoshi
Morisaki Win ~ Nishikawa Tomu
Yagyu Miyu ~ Yoshizawa Kana
Miura Aoi ~ Shingyoji Natsume
Synopsis: (edited from Dramawiki)
Aida Mai is in her third year as an english teacher at a private all-girls high school. Due to declining enrollment, the school decides to admit its first male students. Those five freshmen initially feel they're in paradise, and the concerned Mai tries to help them adjust by creating a social dance club and invites five girls. These ten students, through the social dance club and Mai, will learn things that they could not learn in school.
Slacker's review:
Personally I am rather critical when it comes to school-themed dramas, though I like dramas such as "GTO", "Gokusen" etc. So "Gakko" seemed to be another ordinary school-themed drama...but the storyline is rather different from the rest. It's not about a gang of boys or girls trying to rule the sch or having problematic behaviours with teachers. It focused on 5 1st-batch boys and 5 girls who were outcasted by the rest. I also get to see Aida trying to get the social dance club recognised by the school. There are some taboo topics covered here, and I thought they're quite daring. The "horny" guys who prayed to the "G-string" altar, waiting for tt day when Aida wld wear it. Lolz..We get to know what these young boys are thinking in their heads (nothing good ah..lolz!) The other topics include homesexuality-both boys and girls, and having sex. But don't worry, you don't get to see erhem stuffs here, it's actually a healthy way of presenting such issues through a drama. We get to see the 10 of them bond with each other, and fall in love with their individual dance partners. The side plot wld be the romance b/w Aida and the weird princpal Himuro.
I think u guys wld only know Fukada here..well she's not the main lead actually, but her role is impt. I had a gd laugh when she did her sailor moon hand sign. So cute and kawaii~! Fukada's performance was alright, but kinda constraint with her teacher role ba. I enjoyed her performance in "Yama Kabe"..but Aida is a rather ordinary role.
Tanihara has worked with Fukada for quite a no. of times, nice chemistry from them, but his role didn't have lots of scenes la. Most of the time, Himuro is a secretive principal who always stay in his dark room. Haha..but i like his last scene with Aida...finally he's back to "normal" liao.
Abt the 10 teens...they are not that bad, quite natural, though some of them can be quite annoying, for e.g Eri. Hahaha! I found Shingyoji (Miura) quite an interesting character..Miura's acting was not bad...and she's pretty. Nakamura is also good in handling his scenes, especially when he has to confess to Nishikawa.
I like one of the instrumental used throughout the drama. No themesongs for this drama though. I would recommend to those who like japanese sch-based dramas. This drama has a different perspective and i thought it's quite refreshing.

ML's potato gratin...looked cheesy.
ML's curry chicken rice. Hmm..shocked to see the way they served the curry chicken, coz' the chicken meat were not placed neatly..
PF and my Hamburger steak set. Looked delicious ya? But the hamburger tasted kinda salty, and I didn't like the sauce. A little disappointed though.
ML's dessert...brownie with ice cream.
--Aftermath--
ML was looking for a sling bag, so walked ard BHG. Saw Cindy working at SK2 counter and she's looking great. But didnt get to talk to her la, she's busy serving customers. ML went for her keybpard class later on..and let's check out what PF and I went..lolz!

Slacker's review:
One of the highest rating drama in 2007. Actually I have high expectations for this drama, but somehow the plot is too predictable, and I was somehow disappointed with the development of the storyline and characters. Well, this drama focused alot on the relationship b/w fathers and sons. Many of us are closer to our mums, but I always admired those single dads, coz' it's also not easy for them to handle family problems. Our 2 characters Ci and Qing were imperfect daddies, but they're learning how to be a better father day by day. I like their interactions with the kids..very natural and funny. Somehow, the females here are more like supporting characters. But that's ok...I like Bobby and YoYo...their chemistry is good. Wong Hei and Tavia are not too bad, but somehow i didn't think Tavia suited Hei..lolz! And of coz i was sad that they didn't end up together! Ha Yu is as gd as usual...but watching him here made me realised how much i missed him in "Heart of Greed". Chris Lai did surprised me with his playboy image, but luckily he turned good and worked against his brother.
Themesong "Qin Jin" by Eason Chan....a rather ordinary song by him.
Well, tvb productions are always watchable, even if they are really average. "Fathers and Sons" is a heartwarming drama, but there's too much rivalry between Ci and the Min family towards the ending...

--Serangoon Gdns folks vs Govt--
Alright, actually there's nothing to do with me over the dispute b/w the SG residents and the govt's decision to build the dorm for foreign workers. Butta, I think i am indirectly affected as well leh! I was joking to Tuan & PF abt moving hse if Aljunied GRC becomes "Hougang GRC" in the next election. Well, after reading the comments from the SG residents, u can definitely imagine that they're going to show their unhappiness through votes la. (Well, someday said that..not me!)
In the past yrs, SG belonged to Marine Parade GRC, but in the previous elections they were "chopped over" to Aljunied...and as most of u know...my this GRC is already quite "weak" liao, and now with this incident...I can imagine PAP losing more votes to the opposition sia. (But we still have a few more yrs before the next election..things may change.)
Ah Ching is one PAP supporter, but I'm not saying PAP is perfect. Yeah the party may be good in working out policies at the national level, but it may not be always gd in dealing local issues.
Just imagine one fine day my house wld be under the ctrl of WP just makes me sianz. At least I can expect something from PAP, but there's nothing for me to expect from WP. They only appear during elections. Lolz!

--Good Gracious? Or saying gdbye to uncles & aunties?--
I was reading the papers about Sgporeans' trademark habit of not returning trays and plates after meals. Well, we used to do that in schools...and now we're told that we shld do that in foodcourts and fast food restaurants too. Hmm...nothing wrong with that behaviour...but on the other side of the issue, are we snatching jobs away from those cleaners? If one fine day the whole SG doesn't need cleaners anymore, I wonder how many old folks wld be out of job.
Somehow, such a policy always come with a contradiction.
Returning the trays and plates do not mean the tables are going to be clean. How about the spills and leftovers stuffs like bones etc? Who's gg to clean them? Shld we ask the patron not to dirty the table as well? (Well, that's a gd one. lolz!)
Be it our culture or what, sometimes I think there's a need for cleaners..they're there for a purpose, and they're being paid for it. To me, it's a win-win situation...and I definitely won't believe that all sgporeans wld be so "gracious" to return the stuffs.
I shall see how long this movement wld last...in the mean time, i shall start thinking if i shld do the same as well. Lolz!

TV Drama Review #154 - Code Blue: Doctor Heli Kinkyuu Kyumei
No.of Epis: 11 + 1 specialYear/TV Station: 2008/FujiTV
Cast:
Yamashita Tomohisa ~ Aizawa Kousaku
Aragaki Yui ~ Shiraishi Megumi
Toda Erika ~ Hiyama Mihoko
Asari Yosuke ~ Fujikawa Kazuo
Higa Manami ~ Saejima Haruka
Ryo ~ Mitsui Kanna
Yanagiba Toshiro ~ Kuroda Shuji
Synopsis: (edited from Dramawiki)
The concept is based on Japan's proposal for an emergency medical service using helicopters to quickly reach those in need. A special bill was passed in June 2007 that should foster widespread adoption of the system. Aizawa, Shiraishi, Hiyama & Fujikawa are doctors-in-training, working under the guidance of experienced "flight doctors" like Kuroda & Mitsui. The drama wld focus on the trainee doctors on rescue mission, and the personal problems they faced.
Slacker's review:
Code Blue is a standard medical drama which focus on trainee doctors, though this time they have extra work to do besides their normal routines. Code Blue's storyline is rather predictable, we get to see the individual characters having their own problems...and from time to time there wld be several big cases. U can't fault the plot, but there's nothing new to offer. (That's why I got bored sometimes.) Compared to "Tomorrow", Code Blue is more rigid in terms of storyline. I am quite impressed with Yamapi's performance. "Idols can't act" is a common problem for the Johnny's guys. I think Yamapi cld have shaken that image off with his "Aizawa" role here. He looked alot more matured, but very "woody" with his expressions. (Aizawa is one cool guy..so u know u won't get much expressions from him, he just looked too calm.) Aragaki seemed to grow up alot since her movie "Koizora". She's pretty tall now..and more matured. Performance was not bad too...Shiraishi has to cope with her internal fears and the guilt she had after causing Kuroda to nearly lose his hand. I thought the drama might hint some romance b/w Aizawa & Shiraishi, but nothing much happened. They're just closer to each other, giving moral support...Toda & Asari are alright...I nearly cldn't recognised Toda...she looked different in "Death Note" leh. Anyway, she has lots of dramas going on this yr...but i think she still has room for improvement. Higa, who acted as the nurse was pretty good too..she seemed to have conflict with the trainee docs..but luckily they cld work together well after knowing each other better. Thumbs up to Ryo & Yanagiba..the veterans...I wondered why Yanagiba aged so much??? He looked very "ojisan" here leh...but anyway, I really like his character here, though Kuroda cld be quite annoying...as he's a strict fella.
Not much romance going on here as usual..I wonder why Japanese medical dramas hardly have any romance?? Ha!
Ending theme "Hanabi" by Mr. Children..quite a nice song.
If you're not too bored by medical dramas, do catch Code Blue.
--10/01/2009--
Syonpsis: The special will continue from the last epi of "Code Blue" with the intern doctors rescuing people in the tunnel and ignored the rescue party. As a result, they were refrained from the job for a wk as punishment. Meanwhile, Kuroda decided to concentrate on his rehabilitation and left the hospital. A train with lots of passengers derailed and overturned. The intern doctors went to the rescue, and Kuroda, who is supposed to go to the airport, went to help them out.
Slacker's review:
Main focus of the special was about the train accident, and Hiyama was seriously injured. Plot wise it's rather standard, but I cld feel the strong bond b/w the characters now. We get to see them grow and experienced the difficulties in life & seperation. Sad to see Kuroda leaving the team too. Well, a nicely done special. Don't miss it!
