TV Drama Review #46 - The Strange Tales of Liao Zhai 聊斋

I shall introduce the 6 stories respectively.

Story 1 : Lu Pan
Epis: 6
Cast: Li Li Qun, Byran Wong, Mei Xiao Hui, Huang Xiao Ming, Hu Ke
Summary: Hell judge Lu Pan and Si Ma Pan made a bet, to see when a dumb fella becomes clever, will he commit evil crimes. Lu Pan wanted to experiment, thus he found Zhu Er Dan and changed his heart with a teacher. He also changed a poor scholar Bai Yang's fiancee's head and replaced it with Er Dan's wife's head. Bai Yang was angry after knowing the truth and went to hell to complain to Yan Luo Wang.
Comments: Dont know this story from "Liao Zhai". The plot was alright, Byran Wong's character was not easy to act actually. Though i wont say he's perfect, but he's rather convincing. I really felt like bashing him up after he became smart la. Hahaha! The whole story wasnt too absurd, though i dont know how much it differs from the original.

Story 2: Hua Pi
Epis: 6
Cast: Jiang Hua, Pan Yi Jun, Zeng Li
Summary: Wang An Xu, an official met ghost at home. He found out that the ghost was his ex-lover Mei San Niang, who came alive from the drawing on human skin. It turned out that An Xu killed her and married Chu Hui, who has relations with the royal family. San Niang wanted to take revenge, but was cheated by An Xu again. An Xu wanted to marry the princess and killed Chu Hui...
Comments: One of the ridiculous plot in this series. Hua Pi is a super famous story in "Liao Zhai", and definitely the original story is much different from this one. This is the first time i hated Jiang Hua's character so much la, but his character surprised me coz' i assumed the female ghost to be the evil one. In the end, it's all the guy's fault...and the 2 female leads were so pathetic...

Story 3: Xiao Qian
Epis : 6
Cast: Hu Ge, Yang Mi
Summary: Fox spirit Nie Xiao Qian wanted to get Ning Cai Chen's soul to give to Lao Lao, but she was unable to do it as she cant make Cai Chen happy. Cai Chen's compassion touched Xiao Qian and fell in love with him. However, the thousand yr old tree spirit who wanted Xiao Qian as bride wont let them off easily.
Comments: I practically gave up watching after the 2nd epi. That young gal just couldnt make it and Hu Ge's performance was average. The story of Xiao Qian had made a deep impression on me coz' of the past HK movies. It's so nice la, but this 6 epis kinda wrecked the whole thing.

Story 4: Xiao Xie He Qiu Rong
Epis : 6
Cast: Tae, Tang Ning, Huo Si Yan
Summary: Scholar Tao Wang San went into a haunted house and met Qiu Rong, Xiao Xie and othher female ghosts. After being frightened by them for several times, Tao Wang San became gd friends with them. These female ghosts even helped him to win another martial scholar at a competition to win a bride. Xiao Xie found that she's in love with Wang San as he could get married with the rich lady.
Comments: Didnt watch at all. The plot wasnt attractive to me and i dont know this story as well. So not much to say.

Story 5: Xiao Cui
Epis : 6
Cast: Jimmy Lin, Li Bing Bing, Lin Li Ping
Summary: A thousand yr old fox spirit wanted to repay kindness to her saviour. Thus, she asked her daughter Xiao Cui to marry his saviour's dumb son Wang Yuan Feng. The couple get along well but soon the evil snake spirit came and controlled Yuan Feng, after making him smart...
Comments: I wld say Xiao Cui is the best among the 6 stories. The plot was not too absurd or too different from the original. Jimmy Lin and Li Bing Bing's performance was rather good, though they were kinda silly when playing together. Though the ending was kinda weird, i really enjoyed the entire story.

Story 6: A Bao
Epis : 6
Cast: Rainie Yang, Yuan Hong, Zheng Pei Pei, Zhang Da Ming
Summary: Vet Sun Zi Chu saved A Bao's parrot and they fell in love with each other. Soon, A Bao suffered from loss of memory after she offended young master Chai. Chai's nanny had casted a spell on her to help her god-son...
Comments: Rainie looked beautiful here, but I dont like Yuan Hong. He looked weird in ancient appearance. Dont match at all la. Plot wise is alright, but again I dont know this story.
General comments: I was disappointed with "Liao Zhai", may be coz' i anticipated too much, esp with the strong cast from different countries. It's not horrifying at all and the plots changed too much, as in they added in here & there to extend the story. I wld rather see something near to the original, shorten the story and introduced some new ones, which are not commonly make into dramas. The subbed dialouges also kinda annoyed me coz' of the pronounciation and slang. It just didnt match to many actors, esp those from TW & SG. Finally, only the music at the intro sounded eerie...bengz

Yeah! It's over!

[Funfair] I was practically standing for 3/4 of my time today from 7.30am to 5 plus just now. Didnt eat much but drank plenty of water. Tuan had a tough time too coz' she need to blow the balloons and it's bloody hard to blow or pump them. (the ballons are not those cheap ones la) Anyway, our team today was generally alright, not many half-dayers, but the guys were giving us trouble coz' they cant stop playing. In the end, saw some co-ordinators coming in and some other teenage guys. Young kiddos really cant do serious work.
The human flow wasnt that much this yr, as compared to what i had seen in the past, was super busy during 1oam plus to 1pm plus. Situation was kinda messy coz' many ppl were playing at the same time. Saw this mum whose behaviour really sucks to the core man, everybody was disgusted with her comments. Blame on your skills lah, other ppl can burst the ballons why cant u?!
Met this little girl who was a helper too, she came several times to our store to shoot balloons lah. Later we became very familiar with each other ah..even Tuan knew her. Ah! She's quite a lovely girl and super pro in shooting balloons. So we named her "balloon pro". Will be looking forward to see her next time la. Hehe!
Legs are aching now, and my head is "spinning" as i am typing now. Think must rest awhile liao.
[Happy Birthday] Yr end babies...wanna wish u gals a very happy birthday lo!

Day sucks when u are in bad luck

Suay incident 1: Basically it was from yday, i was planning to reg for my FTT so i woke up early to accompany Tuan and E.W to Ubi CDC. After i reached there, i realised i forgot to bring my wallet! Haizzz....kenna "scolded" by E.W la..Anyway, Tuan passed her BTT le. Didnt study much and can pass...ha! reminded me of ML.
So, decided to go down to CDC this morning so that i can book the same FTT date as Tuan and avoid the long queue. Remembered to bring my wallet this time round, but when i reached there, the lady told me their system was DOWN! dunno must wait for how long, so she asked me to book online thru' internet banking (i dunno if i can go thru tt or nt...or else i gotta go down again on Monday!) Super suay lah...E.W "scolded" me again for wasting her petrol...win le lor!
Suay incident 2: Had dinner @ Delifrance just now...service was not good, but i didnt expect much anyway. The manager took our orders, but after sometime, Tuan's spaghetti still didnt come, and i had finished mine. So we asked again and realised that the receipt dont have her spagh...what the...anyway, that manager served us immediately la, butta she forgot Tuan's hot chocolate liao..and the worst was...they served me the wrong dessert! I didnt request to change coz' i am fine with it la, butta the experience was really bad this time round, and Tuan was very unhappy with their service. Haiz...
Suay incident 3: Er...actually it's not suay lah, just that it's out of my plan...haha!
Went to Long John Silvers with PF and planning to meet Tuan to go to Fu Hui for funfair preparations. Just as we were turning round the corner, i suddenly heard PF gasped! E.W & Tuan were laughing like siao lah..coz they scared her lah, ironically they actually planned to scare me lor. Hahahhaha! So asked PF wanna go Fu Hui see see look look and then we went there together. Well, was waiting impatiently for my pal YN while we got down to work. Wanna thank PF for staying there to help us la...u're appreciated. Decided to get her the form for the buddhism studies adult class, but E.W told us the application date was over. (all thanks to the mis-info from may ling lao shi) Haha...so we decided to "go from the back door" by putting PF's name on waiting list. I was told later to take PF up to the lib to get her form, and went with YN to find may ling lao shi la. PF got her form...while YN & I were kenna "sarbo" by May ling lao shi to join the adult class as well! Arrghhhh....the best part was...Hao Xiang Shi Fu was there lah..very hard to reject leh! Haiz....so i am gg back to fu hui for my lessons next yr liao...after an absence of 3 yrs. All thanks to PF...now very happy hor? got ppl accompany u...
Btw, dunno when Hao Xiang Shi Fu know me..it's scary when so many ppl know who u are leh. Ha! i was surprised when she saw my name and said, " ah Yun Qing! U've grown so big lah!" Omg...seems like she knew me long long time ago. Then i was writing other particulars..there's this part which is abt our buddhism studies background..and i wrote i had been in fu hui for 10 yrs. Then she said, "You can be teacher le..." (dunno what to say le...pray hard she wont be teaching me...lolz!)
[Funfair] Back to this part, i was rather reluctant to participate after yrs of participating in it. Why? may be i am tired of it ba...every yr is the same stuff actually. So i am back again to help YN with her stall, and thanks to Aunt Jo & E.W, our board looked very nice. However, the kiddos there really pissed me off lah, rude and ill-disciplined. Think the generation gap b/w me and them is like far apart. The organisation of the games section was always very messy and last minute, that's one part i really dont like abt it. The other part that turned me away was the ppl i wld be working with. I dunno them and i dunno what wld happen tmr as well. Must shoulder up responsibilities with YN & Tuan lah..just wanna pray hard i wont get a bunch of ill-mannered kiddos tmr. The best thing was i dunno who wld turn up tmr also, everything is uncertain, even the point system of the game. Basically i am still kinda blur with the game, as in procedure. Well, qiao dao chuan tou zi ran zhi...can do nothing liao. Wish myself all the best tmr..think gg to stand for the wholeday. Haizz....
Finally, always impressed with E.W with her way of doing things. Though she cld be quite demanding, she could communicate with all sorts of ppl, even those bunch of kiddos..really must learn from her.
